The new season of the popular Food Network BBQ competition series features new contestants and chef lineups, but the judges stay the same. Erica Blaire Roby

Roby's recent appearance on Blue Smoke Grill, a Food Network program, shows that she has more to cooking than many people think. Roby, a psychology graduate, has worked as a wine expert as well as a criminal defense attorney. Prior to competing on Food Network, she had spent some time working as a sommelier, pairing wines with foods. She was able to rekindle her love for cooking and the kitchen through this work. Roby grew up in a family that owned a barbecue restaurant.

Roby, despite her legal career, decided to start cooking barbecue after she had her first child. Her father's dream of her opening a barbecue restaurant inspired her, so she decided to take up the challenge. Roby signed up for a celebrity barbecue chef Harry Soo's cooking class in 2018. She became a certified barbecue pitmaster, and soon began working at a barbecue restaurant.


She began her passion for barbecue as a hobby, and eventually she became obsessed with it. She began by making dishes on her back deck. She then went on to compete at barbecue competitions all across the country, where she cooked alongside some of the most renowned pit masters in America. Since then, she has launched a series of pop-ups around Dayton, Ohio. She hopes to one day open a food truck.

Team Brawl vs. Team Anne

Food Network BBQ Team Brawl will host its third season. Two of the top chefs in the country will compete to win the ultimate grilling title. Anne Burrell and Jet Tila will be taking on Bobby Flay, Anne and Team Anne in an unforgettable dinner-party brawl. Matt Roth, the Austin-based Smokin Beauty co-owner with Thao, returns to "BBQ Brawl" and will be back in the new season.

Ann gave instructions to the contestants in the first episode Food Network BBQ Team Brawl. Jet and Team Bobby let them decide what they would make. As a result, Team Bobby failed to make his ceviche. This time, Team Anne has a big advantage. Anne even jumped in front of Team Bobby's contestant as he reached out for an ingredient.

Like all Food Network competitions there are many familiar faces in the new season BBQ Team Brawl. Lee Ann Whippen, who has competed in barbecuing for 23 years, will serve as the judge for Team Anne. She is also the managing director of Deviled Pig in Tampa, and a judge at the Kansas City Barbecue Society. She has won several state and national barbecue championships.


Flay vs Symon was another contest for the best barbecue sandwich. Lee Ann chose to make a sandwich the traditional way, while Susie chose a more exotic approach. Her pork belly banh mi pushed the boundaries of flavors while the judges thought it was too thick. Team Anne's burger tasted great and was well-baked.
